We rise to show Ahmedabad that we want to end violence against one billion women and girls worldwide! In India the issue of gender violence and discrimination is relevant now more than ever. It has stirred the nation to a new awareness and activism. So what action will you take? It’s time to rise, take a stand and say NO. We will join in solidarity, purpose and energy and shake our communities into a new consciousness.
On February 14, we gather for Garba, the traditional dance of Gujarat. Why Garba? Garba is a dance not led by men, and gives women full equality. Dancing insists we take up space. It can happen anywhere at anytime with anyone and everyone. It's free. It's of the body. It's contagious and it spreads quickly. It joins us and pushes us to go further. Imagine what is possible when thousands of Amdavadis rise and dance on 14 February 2013.
Our commitment goes beyond dancing. It is time to stand firm and declare that we will not be silent to end violence against women.
